Boston Strong

Reflect on the events that occurred over April vacation concerning the Boston Marathon. What were you doing at the time? How did you hear about it? Do you understand what happened?  Despite the horrible incident, many are talking about how inspirational it was to see so many people come together and help one another, do you agree? Can you recall any heroic stories that you heard on the news?

Utilize Google or another search engine and find a heroic story and summarize it.

  1. I heard of the bombing first on M.P.R radio in my dads car. I was scared because two of my friends were skating in Boston that day. The passage I read was about a boyfriend saving his girlfriend. When she was injured her boyfriend grove two miles two Massachusetts general hospital. She said if not for that she would be dead.

  2. When the Boston marathon happened I was in the kitchen with my friend Kyle when i heard my mom say "Oh my god!" I go in the living room and there were explosions at the finish line of the marathon. I go back in the kitchen and Kyle asks what happened, I say there were explosions at the finish line and he says "so" and I explain that people were injured. Then he goes on and tells me that he thought they were happy explosions like confetti or something. The Boston marathon bombing was a tragic thing that happened and I’m glad that the people that have committed this serious crime have been brought to justice.

  3. When I first found out about this I was at my house after walking my dogs with my cousin. They came over a little while after to see a new floor we put in. My mom turned the t.v on and we started watching. We were watching on and off while talking. My Mom knew one of the officers there. I think there were many heroic stories that came out of it. People who weren't injured were carrying people who were to the emergency room. A father and daughter story about them administrating CPR to people before paramedics arrived. Many people were also stopping blood with their hands and sleeves.

  4. When the Boston Marathon bombings occurred I was in the TD garden gift shop looking around when i saw everyone in the shop turn to the tv as the news reporter reported explosions had occurred at the finishing line of the Boston Marathon. When I first heard that there were explosions I thought they were small explosions caused by a fire or something so I wasn’t as concerned. So my family and I got on the train and rode it back home thinking it wasn’t such a big deal but as soon as I sat down i went on instagram and saw posts that had pictures of people injured, police and ambulances everywhere, people bleeding, blood on the ground, particles from buildings and other things, and smoke and dust everywhere. When I got home My mom told me that there were explosions at the Boston Marathon. We all sat down and watched as ambulances drove in out of the screen and saw the mess the explosions had left. That was when I soon realized that the explosions were serious and lots of people were hurt and a few died.I was surprised that someone would do such a thing.http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/04/dennis-lehane-praises-heroic-reaction-to-boston-marathon-bombings/

  5. On a nice Monday afternoon, I was sitting outside, with my cousins, at my cookout. Around 2:50p.m., my dad’s friend got a news flash on his phone and it was saying that the Boston Marathon had been bombed. Right then, everyone fled into my house turning on the news. We stood there in shock, not believing the tragedy that has just occurred. Despite this terrible incident, there were many heroic actions taking place. For example, there was one girl, Kaitlynn Cates, that was saved by her heroic boyfriend, Leo Fonseca. Cates’s leg was nearly blown off when the first bomb exploded. Right away Fonseca knew he had to do something and sensed that there might be another bomb coming. Just then, he threw his body on top of the young girl as the second bomb went off, saving her leg from being even more injured. Once the second explosion happened he scooped Cates up in his arms and placed her in his car parked about a block away. He drove as fast as he could, dodging all of the objects around them to get to the hospital right away. Because of Fonseca’s heroic actions, Cates might not have been able to save her leg in time.

  6. When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon I was at my friend Jack Tallgrass house. I was there with my younger brother Logan. We were outside jumping on their trampoline. Jack and his sister Zoe had gotten into a fight and were sent to their rooms. I had decided to go inside to sit on the couch until my Mom arrived. When I got inside I saw the news on TV. It was terrible. 2 killed 48 injured or something it read on the screen. One of the many heroes in the Boston Marathon tragedy is Dr. Vivek Shah. he is a dr. who works at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Vivek Shah was running the marathon himself until he heard the explosions at the finish line. Dr. Shah provided medical treatment for a number of victims in the chaos. Once the area was stable he started to look for his family. Because he so hoped that they were not one of the faces on the ground. Shah states “People with traumatic amputations, one leg, both legs, it just looked like everyone was in shock. If you look into the victims' eyes, they didn't really know where they were. I've never seen that quantity of injury in one place.”

  8. I remember I was at Geek with my friend Scott when the bomb went off.I got out of geek and started walking home at like 3:15 and got home at almost 3:30.I walked in the house with him because he was going to stay for dinner, and when we both walked in we found my sitting on the couch watching the TV and she was in tears.I asked what was wrong and she said she was General Hospital the show when the news came on and said that two bombs had gone off one after the other on 687 Boylston street in downtown Boston.I was shocked because I go down that street all the time with my dad because we go to Boston so frequently.Scott went back to his house after a few minutes. It was just a really tragic day for everyone. There was a girl named Sandra Sukstorf who was standing in her hotel room and saw the extent of the damage first hand. She then went down to the street and found her husband ,and he was so exhausted he could barely walk when they were both trying to find somewhere to go inside. When another hotel opened its lobby to a lot of the tired runners. Her and her husband were on the street trying to find somewhere to go inside when Sandra put a message online and within a half hour, she heard from more 200 strangers offering a ride or a place to stay.I also saw on the channel 5 news that a store owner on the street where the bomb went off rushed out onto the street and started tying tourniquets on a bunch of the people who lost their limbs in the explosion. There were so many good and heroic things that happened during that chaotic and sad time.

  9. When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon I was standing about fifty feet away from where I could of got hurt. My mom and I were just leaving when the bombs exploded. We were planning on taking the 4:00 train back to Gloucester. If we chose to take the 5:00 we probably would have been injured.

A young surgical intern who had just finished a 14-hour hospital shift pushed his way through the police lines to treat victims at the end of a marathon route. An Army veteran who served in Afghanistan soothed a gravely wounded young woman by showing her his own shrapnel scars, assuring her that she would survive.

  10. I first heard what happened in the Boston Marathon by my dad. He called us from his work and said "Turn on the news, there was a bombing at the end of the Boston Marathon". He also told us to keep him posted about what happened. After my dad spoke I asked him if Charity was okay. Charity was our good friend that ran the race every year. He said she was fine and he already called her to make sure she was okay. She ended up being only a half of a mile away from the bombing! I was very grateful she was okay. She had told him about the first responders, police, the military, and the fire fighters. He told me that the police were first getting everyone that was still running to not go near the area in which the bombs happened. She said they were heroes to me because when the other bomb ended up exploding more people were safe because of them. The people that were in the military went into the smoke and fire where the bomb exploded and picked up hurt or injured people into wheel chairs and to the hospital and saved many peoples life's by getting them safely to the hospital. I think they are heroes because of what they do for our country even if they are stationed or not. Any doctors, nurses, and surgeons who were at the marathon or running the marathon ran straight to the hospital to save peoples life's that was a heroic act because they acted by themselves not just because someone told them too. Not only were there police, firefighters, military, etc. There were random people who saw what happened and saved complete strangers by carrying them to the hospital, protecting others from the second bomb by laying on top of them or covering their heads or even stopping their bleeding with there clothing and wrapping it tightly. They were heroes for protecting random people and saving their lives. The last people I want to thank and recognize as hero's are the FBI and detectives. They got out any bad people and made Boston a safer place to be. I believe that anyone who helped out are heroes in my eyes and many others too.

  11. When I heard about it I was digging a hole in my yard. We were going to prepare to put a patio in. then my mom came out and told my brothers and me what happened. It was 15 minutes after the first bomb went off. I really didn’t know what happen . After that my brothers started talking about their friend that lived right next to the finish line. I didn’t know how bad it was or how big the bombs were. I really didn’t know much about what happened until a couple of days later when I googled it.
Someone that showed an act of heroism is Army Sgt. Lucas Carr. He finished the race at 2:48. 2 minutes before the first bomb went off. he told his girlfriend to run towards the explosion. He thought that the bomber wanted to scare people the other way towards another bomb. when he started to help everybody and he used so many tourniquets.there was people with missing limbs everywhere. he really didn’t want to see that.

  12. During the Boston Marathon explosion I was mountainbiking in Rockport. I didn't hear about the explosions till I got home at night and my mom was watching the news. When I heard about the explosions I didn't know that it was such a big deal and didn't know it was a terrorist attack. I heard. When I heard about that they shut down all the transportation in Boston it must have been scary for the people that were not part of the bombing and the people that were involved in the bombing. I think it is amazing that the daughter and father that were both doctors ran into the crowd of injured people and helped them.

  13. I figured it out when this happened when i came back from getting my bracces tightened. Then i came home and my mom turned on the tv and said that a bombing happened. I asked where and she said at the Boston marithon and i said that stinks and went up stairs not thinking how bad it was until i found out three people died and that how I figured it out about the Boston Marithon bombing.

  14. When I first heard about the bombing I was in Beverly to see my aunt who was going to go to the Boston Marathon but couldn't, I was extremely happy she could not go. We were watching the News as they were talking about the bombing. We had blank faces on I didn't know what to think. I heard my aunt calling her husband to tell him about it. He raced home to see that my uncle (Her brother) who ran the Boston Marathon was OK. He only had a few burns and scrapes. We were very happy he was not hurt badly.
Hearing about all these hero's who ran to save others lives is amazing. All of the stories like this one,http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2013/04/17/patriot-day-heroes-marathon-spectators-become-first-responders/8uoVeyShelDuUjKRUcDKyM/story.html got me to think of the people who would save lives of loved ones, even strangers. Those heroic people who saved other peoples lives are truly heroic. That is my story.

  15. When the bombs were detonated I was longboarding with my friend who was visiting from Maine. When we got back to my house, my brother was saying that people were Tweeting about people dieing at the marathon, and he thought that like a building fell on them, but we turned on the news and they were saying it was a bomb. I do agree that it was good that a lot of people helped out people who were injured and could not help themselves.
A marathon runner ignored police as they yelled at her to stop, but she kept going. She said that she was a doctor and they have to let her through. She saw an unconscious woman and started administering CPR, until paramedics arrived. Later, she saw another person with a wound that would need a hospital, so she yelled out that she needed a hospital.

  16. When I first heard about the bombing of the Boston marathon I was in my moms car listening to the radio. At first I thought that can't be right did they really say the marathon was bombed. Then they said it again so I knew they weren't joking. After that, I quickly told my mom we were both shocked. Who on earth would bomb the Boston marathon filled with innocent people. Even though it was horrible many heroic moments happened then. For example, many doctors after running marathon ran some more to find people in need of help. Also many people cared injured to there cars and drove them to the hospital. With out all the runners and specters many lives wouldn't have been saved. Even thought it was a tragedy many people stood out as heroes and helped the injured.

  17. During the Boston bombing event I was in Water town playing hockey. On my way home from Water town on radio stations all i heard was people saying there was an explosion at the marathon. I think a lot of people from Boston came threw to be heroes in this tragic event. For example, some guy ran another guy in a wheel chair to the hospital.

  18. Heroes of the Boston Marathon Bombing
On Monday the 15th of April my family and I were just coming in after a car ride. It was about 2:45; we sat on the couch and turned on the TV. We were watching the Boston Marathon live. Around 2:50 there was an explosion…. a bomb! We were scared and surprised that it had happened so close to our city. As, we watched the news anxiously there was another bomb. Boston was being attacked and we didn’t know what was going on. Although, this terrible disaster happened there were many heroes and first responders to the tragedy. For example, Leo Fonseca, 41 saved his girl friend Kaitlynn Cates, 25 of Boston Mass. Cates was trying to see over a large sign held by a child but she couldn’t see. Fonseca switched spots with Cates not knowing that he was putting his girlfriend’s life at risk. No more than a few minutes later the first bomb went off and Cates calf was nearly blown off. A few minutes later the second bomb went off. Fonseca threw his body on top of hers to protect her.Fonseca quickly scooped her up and ran to his car that was nearly a block away. After, he got her in the car he drove her to Mass. General Hospital. Leo Fonseca saved his girlfriends life that day. He was a true hero!

  19. When the Boston bombing happened i was playing catch with my dad and my little sister then he went inside for a minute. When he came out and sent my little sister to go inside then he told me that two bombs went off in Boston and a lot of people were hurt. My little sister is only five and was watching the marathon on T.V. but luckily we stopped watching it before the bombs went off. After my dad told me about it he asked me to act normal for my little sister because she was too young to handle or understand it.

  20. At the time that the Boston attack happened I was hanging with my friends, when one of my friends said did you guys hear about the Boston attack? I said no. So when I got home I turned on the news and it was talking about the three victims that had died and it said a lot of people were injured. I felt bad that while I was a having a good time that people were dieing. Also I was very confused that two people would ever think of doing something like that. Then I got very scared because my baby cousin was at the Boston hospital so I was hoping that he was save and nothing happened to him. I thought that it was great to hear so many people helping others that they didn't even know, and brought them to safety. I heard about Andruzzi who was near the finish line when the bombs exploded, he rushed to help. Football fans recongized him in photos carrying a wounded woman to a triage tent and he was quick to downplay his role.

  21. The Boston Marathon was terrible. I have heard so many different stories on what really happened but I don't believe most of them. Some people say that there was a little girl who died, but there wasn't. My older cousin was running in the race but thank god he wasn't seriously hurt. He came around the corner right when the bombs exploded. He said he felt shocked and he just couldn't believe what just happened, and right before his eyes! I think that people these day are cruel and its not funny to do stuff like that. They injured so many people and some lost lives just because of two people being stupid. I think that the boys families are in shock and don't believe that their sons or people in their family would do something like this and they're not taking it seriously. Their aunt and uncle were extremely rude on the interview and his parents wont answer questions and it not helping! I was in Boston when it happened and so was my family. I was on a train in Boston coming home from my vacation in New York City. We were in Boston almost at the station and we heard the first bomb go off. The train driver stopped the train for a second then we kept going. When they second bomb when off we didn't stop. My dad step mom and step sisters were in Boston at the Red Sox game. They were walking to the train station to go back home after the game when the first bomb exploded. They were frightened but they kept going. This was a really scary and sad day and I feel sorry for the people who lost lives and are injured and their families two.

  22. At the time of the Boston bombing incident I was at green street with my friend and my dogs. My friend and I were talking to my mom who was at the Boston hospital where she had just started her new nursing job. She was horrified and had wanted me to go home as soon as possible. There was a helicopter flying by us and kept circling the field. One of the stories I had heard was that the New England Patriots lineman had carried a women to safety from the the finish line. The Joe Andruzzi Foundation had a team of runners in the Boston Marathon to raise money to help more patients.

  23. At the time of the horrible bombing that occurred at the Boston Marathon, I was at Market Basket with my sister and mom. I remember that we were in aisle 9 and a woman ran up to my mom with her cell phone. She was sobbing while she told my mom the story and when she eventually walked away, my sister went up to my mom and she told us that there had been a bombing at the Marathon and that many people had either died or were seriously injured. This was very scary for me because not many of these dramatic events have occurred in my lifetime besides 9/11, which I was too young to remember. I think that it affected everyone, whether in small ways or large. For me personally, my cousin Hans ran in the race and he finished about 20 minutes before the bombs went off. His wife and two little kids were there to cheer him on. Thankfully however, they were nowhere near the bombs. My aunt and uncle, who were Hans’s parents, were also there, and after the bombs went off, they had to just travel along with the bewildered crowd of people until they eventually met up with my cousin and his family at a hotel in Boston. My sister Amanda was also in Boston at the time. She was at the Red Sox game with her friends when they went off, but Fenway Park is not near the finish line, so she got home safely. Despite how horrible and tragic these events were, we should do our best to remember those who lost their lives and honor them in every annual Boston Marathon.

  24. I was at dance when my teacher told us about the bombings at the Boston marathon. She told us that a bomb was set off near the finish line. We were all surprised that someone would do that during such a big event. Some of us were worried that we wouldn’t be safe. But after the second bomb went off we got so frightened. She told us that many people lost legs and even some people died. I was so shocked and outraged that someone would even do that. When I got home later that night I was watching the news with my family. It showed that two people had died so far, a woman and a young boy. I also heard that the young boy’s sister lost a leg and the mother had gotten brain damage.

  25. I was in Pennsylvania when I heard about the bombing, I was not with my family I was with my friends and I was freaking out because my brother is a Pharametic in Boston. At that time they did not know what was going on or who did it, and my brother was going to Boston to help. I didn’t want him to go, but I am very proud he did. He stayed at the second bombers house with many police outside waiting for him to come out, turns out he was not there but there were bombs in cars near them. My brother saved a woman’s life, she was being transported from a small hospital to a bigger one because she was in critical condition. She had burns all over her body and her leg was blown off. I can’t imagine why someone would want to hurt so many people, a little boy passed away, he was eight. Also his sister got her leg blown off and she may never be able to walk again. This Marathon was meant to be fun, and peaceful. But it turned into a bloody massacre. Messing with Boston was a bad idea, we are like a family. Some how we became closer, we are a whole now. Even though this terrible event happened we have became stronger.

I heard a story that there was a family, the mom, daughter and son were all waiting for their father / husband to cross the finish line. Bright smiles and clapping hands the un-thinkable happened. 2 bombs went off and killed the little eight year old, blowing off the little girls leg and causing brain damage to the mother. Can you imagine the horrific scene and everyone screaming? It is terrifying. One thing I can’t understand is why? Why would you want to kill someone, taking their life right out of their hands. They will never breath again, their heart will never beat again. That little girl may never know what it is like to walk again. Someone who kills and injures people on purpose has to have a mental illness. I hope that never again, and people will stop killing each other. Maybe we will be equal, everyone will love eachother. One day, just maybe it will happen.

  26. When I heard what happened I was outside playing with my dogs then my mom came outside screaming, “a bomb went off at the marathon and people were losing legs and arms!” I ran inside and saw a second bomb go off and there were people running into the stands helping people get out of the area. Then, I went on YouTube to see more and the bombs were on YouTube going off and people were running. Then, the news came on and said it was a terrorist attack and the two suspects were on the run. After that, the news said one of the terrorists died and one got away in a hummer and drove over his 26 year old brother. The news also said the 19 year old brother was captured and was taken to the hospital because he was injured . The police found 2 more bombs that didn’t go off under the VIP stands. I heard that a doctor was running in the marathon and when she finished she ran to help people in the medical tent. I think that that's heroic because she didn’t ignore people asking for help.

  27. When I heard about the bombing in Boston I was with my sister, brother and dad. We were cleaning someones yard for about 3 hours. We went to go eat McDonald's then went home. As we walked in the door I saw my mom watching the news and she said, “Look what occurred in Boston”. I was like she’s talking about the Boston Marathon. But when I saw the TV I saw people on the ground and smoke. As I kept on watching I heard then saying “Bombing”. I felt so sad and angry because the people there just went to watch a marathon, not to be victims of a bombing. Something that surprised me was that there were 2 bombs that exploded and 2 more that police found. Some people were very heroic because they helped out and police worked all night and day time to keep people safe. There were so many people that came to watch a marathon and so many people that became victims of a bombing

  28. During the tragic Boston Bombing, I was at my dance studio. I was in the waiting room getting ready for my next class when a mother of a girl in my class said there were two bombs in Boston at the finish line! I was immediately confused. “Who put them there? Was it an accident? Did anyone die?” These were the questions floating around in my head. I didn’t understand what was happening. I didn’t know If this was a terrorist attack or something exploded by accident. Over vacation I went to the 9/11 memorial. All over the walls said the quote “In darkness we shine brightest” which matches up with event perfectly. Despite this horrible event, the city of Boston united as one and shined bright. Many people helped others and were not selfish, For example, Carlos Arredondo was watching someone who was running in honor of his two sons One died during Combat in Iraq and one committed suicide. It was a joyful day for Carlos until the bombs went off. Carlos didn’t hesitate to help. He went straight into the scene and saved a man with serious leg wounds. He put the man in a wheelchair, and he used a piece of his clothing to stop the bleeding. He reassured the man that the ambulance was on its way. This man is truly a hero. He wasn't selfish, he ran right in and helped in any way he could. This is just one hero among so many. Boston will forever be a strong city, nothing can stop it.

  29. It was sunny and seemed like a normal day, until the unthinkable happened. Bombs were going off in Boston. I was just relaxing in the living room watching a movie when I heard my mom “ Oh my god! “ I rush into the living room to see what she was gasping about and I see the videos of the bombs going off replaying on the TV. She told me that the Boston Marathon had been bombed and they don’t know who did it. We continued watching the news for the longest time. We stayed up all night trying to figure out what was going on. The next morning the details seemed more clear. We went on with our daily lives until Friday night when the found the 2 suspects. The police had a shoot-out with the bombers and killed the older brother. The younger brother was wounded and escaped. He fled into a women’s yard and hid in her boat. She called the police to report the blood trail he left in her yard. The police rushed to the scene and eventually had to drag him out of the boat. When my mom and I were watching this we were cringing. Some of my friends were in Boston, but they are all uninjured. I am thankful that they found the bombers and that more people were not injured. There was one man, Matt Patterson who is 30 years old that saved a 7 year old boy’s life. The bomb took some of the boy’s leg off. Matt realized this when the little boy did not. He picked up the boy and made him keep his head pointed towards the sky to avoid seeing his massive injury. Matt made a tourniquet out of a shoe lace and saved this boy’s life.

  30. When the Boston bombings happened I was in Florida walking to my hotel room when it shows on the tv that two bombs exploded at the Boston marathon. At that time I did not know whether the explosions were bombs made by people or there was an explosion in the sewer. But eventually I did find out that the bombs were intended to take lives for one no freak explosion would have all those nails and other materials.Secondly, once the second bomb went off I knew it was not a coincidence.I also did not know if a terrorist group attacked or just a crazy domestic American did it.When they found out who did it I was not sure if it was really the person or people who did it but eventually they found out the information so I knew they must be the people who did it.My thoughts were then to give then the death penalty but then I thought we needed the information

This Horrific tragedy happened while i was home playing MLB 2K12 when my friend told me to turn on the news. When I saw it, I was Confused at first. I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Then, I really thought about it and realized, “Dang! This is scary stuff.” It was so bad. sadly 4 people died and 140 people were injured. All sporting were postponed. It affected so many citizens in the greater Boston Area. But the city and citizens of Boston are strong. And the united as a nation and came together.

  32. When I heard about the horrible bombings in Boston, I was in New York. I was shopping with my mom. I was in Macy's and a little T.V. was on. The employes were watching it. It didn't really catch my attention until it said Boston. I stopped in my tracks and watched all the innocent runners, screaming in pain. I couldn't help but cry. I had to get out of there before I made a scene. I held my mom and cried. I called all my friends in Boston to see if they were all okay. Luckily, they were fine. Every time I hear it on the news I have to turn it off. It breaks my heart when I hear about it. I'm just so thankful that none of the people I know got hurt.
This is a heroic story I heard about a girl and her father saving the injured runners at the race. The girl is a doctor and her and her father ran the race. When the bomb struck, they ran past the police men and save all the innocent lives.

  33. I was in the shower and I got out. Then, I heard the bad news about the Boston Marathon from my grandmother. I saw a lot of people getting hurt on TV. It wasn’t a good seen to see. Then, I went to my cousins and didn’t watch the news for the rest of the day.

The guy in the wheelchair is a hero. When he woke up from surgery he told the police that he saw the guy that did the bomb. By telling the police this information they knew what he looked like.

  34. When I heard about the bombing I had just came inside from jumping on my trampoline to get some water and I saw on the TV that there had been a bombing. I asked my mom what had happened and she said that there had been a bombing in Boston. After that, I told my grandparents. A heroic story I heard about was that one of my past teachers boyfriend helped martin, the little boy that died.

A bunch of people were helping others that were injured in the bombing. Also, all of the officers that were trying to catch the criminal were heroes.

  36. When the Boston bombing happened I was in my room. I was talking on the phone with my friend and watching my hamster run around in his ball. I came down my stairs and I saw my whole family watching the news channel. Then I realized what happened. I don't think I understood what happened when I first started watching the news but my parents explained the whole thing. Soon I realized I had left my friend on the line upstairs and I ran up like a crazy person and told her. But, apparently she already knew. It was really scary that someone would do that so close to the sweet, innocent, and peaceful city of Gloucester. Soon enough I knew more than enough about the bombing because my parents began to research it for the next couple of days. A couple days later I woke up and heard about the tragic Watertown accident which was done by the same to people who set off the bombs and caused the horrible tragedy. I completely agree that Boston held strong at the most tragic moments of the incident and there are many heroic stories of different individuals that may have saved a person’s life. Without them we may have had much more than three deaths. For example one story I heard about was the story of a man named Arredondo who helped one of the victims by comforting the victim and helping him stop the bleeding in his legs.

  37. I was watching to T.V at my cousins flipping to the channels and then, I saw Fox news and it said that a bome went off. Everyone thought it was fireworks for the marathon but the second bome went off and it was bigger and there was screaming. Everyone was helping each other on the streets of Boston. Over 170 were injured and 3 killed. It went to our heads that it mite of been Koreans attacking. We thought it was sad and terrifying.

  38. Two men bombed Boston on April 15,2013 at 2:50 pm. I don’t really remember what I was doing when it happened but my mom came home and told me that it was bombed. I saw a picture on Instagram and it was a picture of Boston while the bombing was going on and on one of the tall buildings, there was a two men standing on the roof. The picture was zoomed in and the men were dressed in all black so I had a feeling they had something to do with the bombing. It was on the news all day and all night. I didn’t even know there was a marathon going on, until I saw it on TV. When I had heard that they didn’t know who had set the bomb, I got extremely mad because who would want to bomb Boston? I later found out that the oldest one, which was 26 had talked his little brother who is 19 into bombing Boston. I can’t even imagine being there, or seeing all the hurt people or actually getting hurt. Many heroic things had happened that day.

  39. When I heard about what happened in Boston I was at Jared Morris's house and we were outside on his trampoline just having fun on a normal day. Soon later i came inside with him for something to drink and a snack and his parents were watching it on the news in their kitchen and his mom was informing us on what happened! And that they had no clue who did it. Jared and I watched it for a while longer and got a lot of information about it. Three live were taken that day for a evil act of terrorism on a day where it was sopposed to be fun and to raise charity.

  40. When I heard about the Boston marathon I was talking to my friend Yvette and she said ‘did you hear about what happened on the news?’’ Then my father interrupted her and said ‘‘at the finish line of the Boston marathon two bombs exploded leaving many injured and some dead’’ Then Yvette said the same thing in different words and I said oh my gosh. I turned on the news and there it was images and videos of the explosion. I was shocked. I hung up the phone and called my cousins who were there watching the race. Thank god they were ok. The only thing that happened after that was my whole family watched the news scared for the people and prayed that the police would find the person who did this. One of the historic heroes i herd of was a doctor who ran the marathon and then once he herd what happened he ran to the hospital to help with the surgery's i think that that was extreamly brave!

  41. When I heard about the horrible bombing, it was because my mom came in running through the door saying turn on the news. My dad turned on the new and it was talking about a bomb going off at the Boston Marathon.I sat right on the couch and was listening to everything they were saying! I was so sad when my mom told me because a lot of people got injured and 3 people died including an 8 year old boy. Also because we just had a shooting incident in Connecticut and now we just had a bombing incident in Boston. I just think its too much and too close. What two people would want to do that and kill and injure so many people. Soon as people saw/heard the bomb, they started running and getting off the bleachers as fast as they could. They also grabbed the injured people and helped them get away from the bomb. I felt so bad for everyone in Boston. I was so scared because my Aunt was working right next to that neighborhood and I didn't know if anything happened to her. One story I heard was that a man ran for the loss in Connecticut and he got hit with the bomb in his leg and his whole leg fell off. I felt so bad. The next day all the people of Boston had a little party that you could go to and put flowers for everyone that was running. My Aunt went to that and sent me a picture of it and it was beautiful!

  42. April 15th, 2013 at 2:50pm, the Bombing Incident happened in Boston. I was in the car with my mom listening to 103.3 and the music turned off going into the news. My mom and I didn't know what had happened, but we both listened to the radio, and we were appalled and shocked on what happened to Boston and innocent people. But, when we got home, I didn't really understand what was going on until my dad came home from work turning on the TV right away (The News- Channel 5). I asked him what was wrong knowing about the accident. He told my mom and I “I hope my friend’s wife is okay. She works with the runners if they are hurt, right where the bomb was and I can’t get in touch with her.” I find it wonderful that many people came together and helped one another after the accident. Since many people got hurt whether losing someone or getting hit by the bomb(s), everyone can feel loved and cared for by other victims or respectful people. One of the stories I heard from the tragedy, was about the 8 year old kid that lost his life from that guys dumb choice. His mother and sister were badly hurt as well. His 6 year old sister lost her leg, and his mother had a brain injury needing surgery. Martin,(The 8 year old) was a big fan of “THE BOSTON BRUINS!!!” as well. Martin was the cutest and I bet the nicest little boy. Who would want someone like Martin to die? I can’t believe someone who got a citizenship, and scholarship would do something of his choice and kill and hurt people in the wonderful town of Boston. I was thinking of the death penalty when I heard about it. Especially on a marathon, for no reason. U.S.A never did anything bad like that to Russia!

  43. On April 15, 2013 at 2:50pm, the bombing happened in Boston. I was in Boston at the time and I was on the tobin bridge. My best friend was at the marathon and I was so scared that she was hurt or injured. I couldn't imagine if I was there and I got hurt or injured. If I was hurt, I would have wanted someone there for me. When I saw the smoke of the bombs and then I turned on the radio and heard them talking about it. The 4 people that died were loved and cared for. One of them was an 8 year old boy. His family got injured also too with brain injuries, lost there legs. Martin Richard was the 8 year old boy and he was a huge fan of the BOSTON BRUINS.

  44. I was at my house, the living room when the bombs went off. I didn't find out about the Boston bombing until 5 pm. My mom asked me if I had already found out about it. I had no clue what she was taking about until she turned on the TV and changed the channel to the News Station. The news reporter replayed the clip of the bombs exploding. I thought the way the people of Boston and all around were trying to help us out with coping with all of the victims. There was a father and daughter duo who helped out the victims of the bombing. The father was a doctor and they were both running the marathon together. They felt the ground shake and then once again. They started to rush to the finish line unaware of the damage that has been done. When they got there the daughter described it as a battlefield. Since the father was a doctor he ran in the help with the daughter not to far behind. With the fathers experience he helped as many people as he could with the daughters help. on of the people he helped was a man with his bone sticking out of his leg. The father pushed the bone back into his leg and waited with him until more advanced medical help was available. These are two of the many heroic people on this tragic day. Boston is a strong city and will remain that way.

  46. During the bombing I was at Subway with my mom. I was eating food and the radio came on and they said that there was a bombing in Boston. My mom screamed very rambunctiously. I was scared and I thought I was going to die. So we rushed home and put on the T.V. Then I ran to my basement and hid in a box. I came out and watched the T.V. They said that 176 were injured and 3 died. Then they said they had found the suspects and were have a shootout. The 26 year old died but the 19 year old escaped. There names were: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. They are scary people. After they killed the MIT police officer. Tamerlan died in the shootout, Dzhokhar hid in a boat and was later taken in to custody. He was taken to the hospital. I think this is a terrible event in Boston history. But the Bostonians will recover from this tragedy. :)

Heroism: The woman gave an unconscious woman CPR. She had a large wound on her thigh. She is a real hero. The woman risked her life to save this woman. If that happened to be me she saved I would be very happy. she is one of the most important person in the race.

At first we were very confused and didn’t really understand what was going on or why they were calling the bombing the Boston marathon. I feel very sad about the whole situation and hope all the family’s recover well from this tragedy.
” A doctor was crossing the finish line of the Boston Marathon when she heard the blasts which killed three people”.
“With no thought for her own safety, Dr Natalie Stavas instinctively ran towards the victims and began to treat the wounded’.
‘In the minutes after the explosions, she carried out CPR and used bits of clothing to help stop people's wounds bleeding’.

When I first heard about the Boston bombing tragedy that occurred last Monday,I was at a restaurant called Senor Frogs in Nassau,Bahamas.I heard about it from my mom who was on Facebook around the time that the bombings happened and there were hundreds of posts explaining what was going on at the time.We were all shocked, scared, and mad about what had happened. We were all exclaiming “How messed up in the head would someone have to be to do something like that.”All of us were worried and wondering if anybody we knew was at the marathon.Quickly,we called all of our friends and family and made sure that they were safe and away from where the bombs went off.We were all very emotionally affected about the Boston bombing tragedy that occurred on April 15,2013.

  50. When I turned on the television at my house all I saw was thick black smoke. The news said that Boston was under attack! That's when I was so scared because we are so close to Boston then my mom told me too. At first I was verey confused but then once we saw lots of videos I understood. I think it brought us together because it made us actually think about our actions. I can relate to this because my godmother was down there waiting for my godfather to end the race and it was his first time ever not finishing a race! They were split up and my godmother was a nurse and my godfather is a news reporter for 7 news so he was try to find the news out and my godmother was helping people. When they found each other we got the call later after the phones were open and my family was so happy to hear from them.

Heroism: Jeff Baumans actions may have been vital in helping police catch the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, even after the attacks both his legs were amputated from the knee down. Now some of that heroism is being returned.

  51. During the bombing I was watching the news when they announced that the marathon has been bombed. I called my family out and we watched in terror as they showed it happening. About 170 wounded and 3 were killed. This is a very tragic moment in history and it will not be forgotten. An act of heroism is when the bombs went off A man helped this girl who got wounded. After all the bombs went off he brought her to the hospital and in the victims on words she said "He saved my life. He's a true hero".

  53. On Monday, April 15, 2013, I heard the most tragic news. There was a bombing in Boston. The sad part was that about 4 people died and more than 130 people injured, it was also during a marathon. Imagine the many people that could’ve died from the bomb. It was a memorable event that everybody was talking about on twitter, Facebook, and instagram. There were already pictures saying “ #prayforboston.” I then wondered...what if my friends were there, I would be heartbroken. I wanted to understand the situation more so I googled the incident to find more information about it. I then came across a picture where it showed a young man hugging his girlfriend who laid there dead. I was like about to cry because it was so devastating. Thank god that none of my friends or family members were there at the time.

A heroic story that I read about was an anonymous hero by the name Tyler. There was a woman who was severely injured during the bombing and she was terrified of what would’ve happened to her. A firefighter then carried her to a medical tent near the finish line. Tyler then came into the tent and calmed her down by showing her a scar that he got when he was in Afghanistan because he described himself to be a Army Sergeant. I personally thought that it was very sweet of him to calm her down and make her less nervous! Don't believe me read about it yourself.... http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/16/us/boston-heroes

  54. When I found out about the bombs during the boston marathon I was in the car with my mom and younger brother heading out of New Hampshire. My mom was switching through the stations on the radio when she stopped at the news station to see if anything interesting was on. The car was silent for almost five minutes as we listened to the man talk about the horrible tragedy that was happening in Boston. I was extremely scared when I heard because a close friend of mine was supposed to be running one mile with a runner in the marathon for her younger sisters twin who died from cancer. I reminded a few of my other friends and together we spent the next hour trying to call her and message her on Facebook. Thankfully after about 2 hours we all got a message from her on Facebook telling us that she was fine. When I heard about all the efforts to help and the instant reaction it kind of restored my faith in humanity. It reminded me that we all do care about each other and other peoples well being more than even our own sometimes. Another heroic story I’ve heard was this story about an 11 year old boy who attacked a kidnapper and saved his little sister. http://www.kitv.com/11-year-old-hero-attacks-kidnapping-suspect-protects-younger-sister/-/8906042/5337890/-/item/1/-/12c8jaa/-/index.html

  55. When I first heard about the Boston Marathon I was sitting in my living room. My dad came indoors and said “Why are people so stupid?” and then asked my mom to turn the TV on. Once it was on my mom put on the news. We saw a live-stream of the events that were taking place. It was a horrific sight. On a better side of the story, it was whimsical to see all of the Bostonians uniting as one! For example, people on the street were helping the injured and lost.
Also when the suspect was captured hundreds of Boston residents fled into the night to celebrate the achievement. That was amazing! Therefore, I agree with what people were saying about it being a tragic but inspirational event.

  56. I was over my friend’s house when I heard the news about Boston. I remember just kinda standing there feeling sick to my stomach at the thought that someone could do such a thing, and then have the nerve to call themselves heroes after killing three people one of them being 8 years old. My aunt told me that one of her very close friends hurt his arm pretty bad but still stuck around to help others. then Minneapolis ran for the Boston victims today. http://www.kaaltv.com/article/stories/S3006431.shtml?cat=10151
People were definitely shocked to hear about this but it didn’t stop them from showing their support for the city, like that cover of sports illustrated, or the front page of the sports section in Chicago that said “we are the Chicago red sox, we are the Chicago Celtics, we are the Chicago bruins, we are the Chicago patriots.” Also Dana White of the UFC pledges financial support for the bombing victims. Having grown up in Boston the incident hit close to home for him. Kaitlynn Cates nearly lost her life during the Boston Marathon bombings but thanks to her friend and the hospital staff she is now in stable condition, but if it weren’t for her friend “Leo” using himself as a human shield the number of deaths would have been one higher. Kaitlynn says she owes her life to him. Clearly we don’t just have heroes around the country but also some in our own backyard.

Heroic action: Two young men were near the finish line when the second bomb went off. They were doing everything they could. The put pressure on wounds They gave them water and preformed CPR. When they were told that there was no more they could do besides give them space They ran. They ran all the way to Boston mass just to give blood to help the injured. MMT

  58. When the event at the Boston Marathon occurred, I was at my cousin’s house playing a game with him while my other cousin was playing video games on the ps3. My aunt got a phone call from her sister, and she told my aunt what had happened. My aunt told my cousin to shut off his video game, and turn on the news. My cousin said he would put the news on but he just kept playing his video game. Eventually my other cousin turned off the video game for him, and turned the news on. We watched the news for a while to figure out what happened. I agree with the people who say that it is inspirational to see how people come together because of the tragedy, and how everyone is working together, and helping each other out.

  59. While the event occurred at the Boston Marathon, I was getting my nails done with Erin. We just finished, and were getting in Erins dad's truck, when we heard it on the radio. I had no idea what was going on, all I knew was that 2 bombs went off at the Boston Marathon. The thought of it scared me, and I was wondering if I knew anyone who was hurt. I didn’t have that well of an understanding though, later that day when I got home my mom and dad explained to me what had happened. When they told me about how as soon as the bombs went off, so many people came over to help the people who were injured. I heard a story about how a man gave his child, to his brother, to go help the injured. Although the brother didn’t just want to stand there and do nothing, so he went into a store, and gave the child to the store owner, then went to help. I think it’s amazing how other people will help each other out, and the town will come together, because of a horrible tragedy.

  60. When I found out I was at my house and my cousin Carrington was on twitter and she saw a picture that said “pray for boston” and we were like “what” and then we found another picture on facebook and there were people on the ground dead or being carried away to the hospital. It was very sad because many people died. I was very worried because my mom ,sister ,and her baby were at the hospital because Briley has pneumonia. After that, I called my mom and i asked “are you ok” she said “ya, the bombing was right around the corner!”

When I was about 8 my sister had a baby. She named him Brayden he was only like 4 months. A tragic thing happened. So I was feeding him a bottle and he fell asleep and so She put him in his crib and so then we all went to sleep cause it was night time.
The next day I woke up and my mom, sister, and Brayden wern't there so I called my mom and she said “I am at the hospital” and I said “ why?” she said Brayden stopped breathing” and then I stayed at my grammy’s to see if he was going to be alright. Then, my mom called back and said” Niah, Brayden didn’t make it “so then i started to cry and my grammy said “ He’s in a better place now”

  61. At the time of the bombs that exploded at the Boston Marathon I was getting a manicure and pedicure with Juliana. By the time we got in my father’s truck the bombs had already gone off twenty minutes before I got in the car. After that I didn’t completely understand what was happening. Once I got home I went downstairs to hang out with Juliana. After I went upstairs to get a drink of water and I saw what was going on, on the T.V. I couldn’t believe my eyes. After, I went to softball practice where everyone was talking about it. I didn’t know anyone that went to the Boston Marathon but I was concerned for everyone else that I knew. What if they had a family member that had been injured? What if one of my friends had been injured? I think that it was flabbergasting to see everyone come together and support the injured that had been hurt by the bombs. There was people from all over the U.S.A that came to see the place of the first bombing and second bombing to remember the three victims that died from the bombing. A heroic story that I heard was that this man that was a runner I think named Carl came over to the first bombing area to help this old man. He noticed him because the older man’s daughter was screaming for help, Carl being a hero took off his shirt and wrapped his shirt around where the older man’s wound was to stop the man from losing too much blood and dying. Carl trying to help asked the man and daughter what there names were where they were from and all these different questions to keep them distracted till an ambulance came and brought the older man to the hospital. Carl was being a hero and there was so many more hero's than just him and I can't believe how everyone came together to help and support the injured and the families of the victims.

  62. When I heard about the Boston marathon I was in my car driving home from new Hampshire. The radio was on and the newscasters were talking about what happened to Boston and how it was so awful. my mom and I had no idea what was going on. I went on Instagram and there were so many posts saying pray for Boston, my prayers go out to Boston. My moms friends texted her and asked her what was going on and she told us everything. I was so shocked that something like this would happen. It was so inspirational to see all the first responders to run into the streets and rip the clothes off their backs to tie up wounds and help out every one that was injured. Maybe this was very tragic but there was some good that came out of it. Like everyone coming together to help each other out. It was so sad to hear that one of the husbands was going to propose to his girlfriend at the finish line of the race but she died after the bombing. Despite all of the tragic stories there was some good that came out of this situation.

  63. During the explosion, I was at my house watching TV. My mom rushed in my room and told me what had happened. I was in complete shock. So without thinking, I got out of my bed and ran into her room to see a video of the bomb exploding. In utter disbelief, I went on Instagram to try and get my mind off the situation that had just occurred. What I saw were pictures of the marathon with the words Boston strong edited on the front. I could not believe how fast people found out about this traumatizing occurrence. At first I did not understand what happened. I thought it was just something that went wrong with the electricity but I guess I was wrong. I strongly agree that along with the devastation, there was inspiration. Many people rushed to the scene to help the many people injured. One hero from the Boston marathon explosion was Joe Andruzzi. The football player, has a foundation that helped the people that had to go to the hospital pay for the treatment they had to undergo. He was near the finish line when the bomb went off. Being the amazing guy he already is, he rushed over and carried a woman into a tent where she could be given medical attention. Another hero is a man named Tyler. He was wounded by the first blast but he managed to get up to help another woman in need of attention. He was caring of her. Tyler needed to calm her down so to make her feel better, he showed her his wound to pretty much say I got wounded too so we will get through this together. Natalie Stavas and her father are also heroes. They were just running the marathon when the ground shook. They then heard about the explosion and sprinted despite her broken ankle to help. The police officers screamed at her not to go in but she refused to not help the wounded. She told them that her and her father were doctors and could help everyone that needed it quickly. Stavas saw an unconscious woman lying on the ground with a gaping hole in her knee. Making a snap decision, she gave the injured woman CPR. These three people to me are courageous heroes of the Boston marathon.

When the devastating Boston Marathon scene happened i was near east Boston.I heard about it fr4om my dad.Yes i went to the bruins game Saturday and it showed how strong Boston was and it was so touching that everyone sang the anthem and they showed a slide show on the mega tron.I think the as a group of citizens in Massachusetts we all grew stronger that day.

A story that really got to me was a one i saw on the news this morning. There was a group of kids raising money for a foundation for the little boy who died in the tragic they have raised over 5000.

  65. On Monday I went into to Boston with my mom, Jill who’s a family friend, and my brother Alex. We went into Boston because it was my brothers birthday and we were going to the Bruins game that night. For the first part of the day we went to Faneuil Hall. Jill and I were in a store and not with my brother or mom. All we heard we sirens so we were really confused and didn’t know what was going on. Jill looked on her phone and saw people making tweets about bombs going off in Boston. At that point we were freaking out because we couldn’t get in touch with my mom because our phones wouldn’t work. Also, we didn’t know if the bombs went off anywhere near us. It turned out that the bombs were on the complete other side of Boston so we stayed there till about six.

In the link below this article shows when the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon just how many people ran to the explosion to help rather than running away. It tells various stories of people showing heroism on this tragic day. Some were ordinary people and others were people who were already known as a hero. It explains the stories of what happened from the people who helped points of view. The article shows how even though the Marathon bombing was a tragic event it brought out the best in the people of Boston.

  66. On Monday, April 15 I was hanging out with one of my friends. When my mom got home from work she came to my room and said did you hear about Boston. I said no and then she told me what happened. Then I turned the news on, because I couldn’t believe someone would do that. I continued to watch the news for a couple of days and heard about all the great heros. Although something tragic happened many people came together to help one another. As you can see in the link below Leo Fonseca was a true hero by saving his girlfriend Kaitlynn Cates. Kaitlyn was trying to see as the people were coming to the finish line but she couldn’t see, because of a large sign held by a little girl. Leo said to his girlfriend “lets switch”, which only made her closer to the bomb. A moment later the first bomb went off. The bomb sent the couple flying. Her now bloodied calf was almost completely blown off. Leo threw him self on top of her and they heard the sound of the second bomb. Kaitlyn screamed “Get me out!” “Get me out of here!” Leo rushed her to his car. Through the horror Leo drove her to the hospital. Kaitlyn didn’t know if she was going to make it, but thankfully to her boyfriend (a true hero) she made it.

  67. The Boston marathon bombing was tragic but many people showed heroism that day as well. When the first bomb went off I was walking down to the finish line with my family to meet my friend running in the marathon and we were a little passed the 1 mile to go marker. Right after the bomb went off we knew something had gone wrong because all the runners were stopped and everyone was crying trying to find their families. At that moment my family and I didn’t know how bad the bomb was but we luckily had found our friend who had not reached the finish line yet. My dad and uncle let some runners use their phones to call their families to see if they were safe and all of their families were. After that we tried to go down to the train station so my cousins and uncle could go home and get out of Boston, but all the train stations were shut down and the only one who brought a car was my dad. So all of us decided to get in the car even though there was not a lot of room. We had to fit 9 people in a 5 person car and it was really crazy but we were all safe.

One hero that came from this is Leo Fonseca. He was enjoying and watching the marathon at the finish line with his girlfriend Kaitlynn Cates when the first bomb went off. Cates was thrown to the ground and her calf almost gone Fonseca then threw himself on top of her to protect Cates from any other blasts. After he picked Cates up and carried her to his car which then he started to drive down the road the wrong way in order to get her to the hospital as fast as possible. Luckily Cates got the news later on that she will heal and be able to walk again but she said if it weren't for Leo Fonseca she might not have made it.
